When you choose a new bike there are a few things to consider. To make sure you choose the right bike we have put together a guide which explains the key points about each different type of bike, then when you come into store you should already have a rough idea of what you are after. With regards to picking the right size, it’s always best to try it out in person.

Commuter / Urban

Get to work fast on a solid reliable bike. Most bikes will have 700c road wheels, puncture protect tyres and will be able to accommodate luggage racks, mudguards and look pretty smart too.

City / Leisure

Move around comfortably and in style. Whether its a lazy Sunday afternoon ride in the country or a pop to the shops, these bikes are easy to ride, nice to look at and offer an upright riding position.

Performance Hybrid

Whether on or off road, these bikes will get you from A to B …fast. Rolling on 700c wheels like road bikes these bikes will eat up the miles which makes them pretty good for commuters too.

Look for: Giant Rapid for on road, Giant Roam for off road

Folding

Perfect for commuters especially if you catch a train every day. Easy to assemble and designed purely for convenience.

Look for: Brompton custom folding bikes

Hybrid Electric

Maximum speed and efficiency for minimum effort, these bikes make the commute a lot easier. Pedal assist is the best way to describe them, you pedal a bit and the bike helps you, great for hills and windy days!

Look for: Giant Twist Express, Giant Escape 1

Mountain

Mountain bikes are available for a mixture of terrains and riding styles. You can either have fully rigid, front suspension or dual suspension.

Look for: Cannondale Flash F1, Lappiere Zesty 314

Road

Road bikes come a few different styles too, performance and sport. Performance bikes tend to be made from Carbon Fibre and have more race specific geometry. Sport road bikes have a similar spec but more relaxed frame geometry.
